CHAPTER
1. SERVICES.
Promotion
and positioning on the Web are the key factors to the success
of your web-site. Web-site promotion is an independent part
of the web services. We will look closely at competition
in your industry, represented on the Internet: what they are
doing to position their sites to the top, how they are promoting
themselves, research top keywords associated with your
business. Then we will review and correct your web-site
code and structure (if necessary) for further resubmission to
boost your ranking on the major search engines.
Site
submission service is the essential part our promotion services.
Unlike some free bulk submission facilities on the Internet
or commercial software for automated submitting - we concentrate
our efforts on manual submission to the major search engines
and directories for safe and quality results.
Remember
- there are no "search engines secrets" for
top ranking. There is an ever changing algorithm which pulls
pages which engine's index regards as relevant.

CHAPTER
2. HISTORY of SEARCH ENGINES.
Gaining
a top position with search engines is achieved by good indexing
of your page for particular keyword or key-phrase. Since the early
days of existence of search engines there were always attempts
for some web-site owners to "promote" their pages. In order of
their appearance the following tricks were used:
|
- Stuffing
pages with keywords, i.e.: promotion, promotion, promotion,
promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion,
promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion,
promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion,
promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion,
promotion, promotion, promotion, promotion - hoping that this
page will get top indexing for the above keyword.
|
- Hiding
the above lines on the page by simply matching color of text
with background color of the page.
|
- Stuffing
Titles, Descriptions, Keyword meta-tags with keywords as above.
|
|
|
- The
most sophisticated method is called "IP delivery" (this involves
programming - special software module recognizes when a Search
Engine's spider is visiting the site and shows to the Spider
other "promotional" (specifically configured) pages for indexing,
however ordinary visitors will see a normal content).
|
|
Search
engines in response always take measures in order to protect content
of their index. All they want is a quality of databases, because
it is not rear that owners of sites with irrelevant content are
trying to promote their pages using popular keywords and phrases.
So, doing search for "football" or "mp3" sometime pull pages with
irrelevant or even obscene content.

CHAPTER
3. ASPECTS OF INDEXING.
Each
Search Engine has its algorithm of how to index pages. And this
algorithm is the key. Obviously they do not advertise or publish
it. And more over, Engines change algorithms to tackle new methods
of spamming. That means that one day you may be No.7 with HotBot
and the next day No.69. Also, having a good indexing with one
engine does not guarantee that your pages will have a good ranking
with others. For example Altavista indeed pays a lot of attention
to Links out (external links), but what used to be "Infoseek"
put more stress on Alt-tags (alternative text for images) and
file names (however this engine now is now functioning). Each
engine has its own way to figure out what is the most relevant.
|
- Another
aspect: It takes from few days (Altavista) to 12 weeks (Yahoo)
to be indexed.
|
- Another
aspect: some engines do not take multiple submissions, i.e.
Altavista allows only 5 pages per 24 hours from one site.
|
- Another
aspect: statistics say 85% of traffic comes from Top 10 major
Search Engines. Major engines now start to identify automated
submissions. Therefore we usually submit pages to the Top important
engines manually for safe and quality results, submissions to
other 100s of search engines are made automatically using special
software.
|
- Indexing
algorithm developed to be quite complex, - i.e. some engines
count density of keywords within the body text and if it exceeds
a certain percentage then the engine considers that this as
"too much" and push your page down. If a page has less that
a "golden" percentage then it again will be lower in ranking.
Recent measurments show that some engines start using multiple
algorithms, i.e. if "Total No. of words in Body Text less
than 300 - use algorithm A, if this value is over 300 but less
than 1000 - use algorithm B" and so on...
|
- People
/ Companies who guarantee top ranking often give such assurances
for specific/rear phrases like "Your Company Name" which will
obviously bring your home page to the top. But try and search
simply for word "company" - then there will be millions of results
with your homepage listed somewhere among them.
|
|
RESUME:
There are a lots of other things to be considered for good indexing
with search engines. We are not only reviewing situation ourselves,
but subscribe to commercial services who do special search engines
reports, keyword research etc.
